Story Board After reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar, have the students take what they know about the story and make a story board. This will not just be any story board, the students will use newspaper patterns or self created patterns to create their favorite foods that they would eat through along the way to becoming a butterfly. The students should be allowed to work in groups or on their own; giving them this option will let the students take advice from others and share ideas. Encouraging this can expand the creative minds of the students and help give the students the confidence to make good artistic decisions.

Assessment
Having the students do this activity give them the chance to show their creative side. Eric Carle uses collages of his self made paintings in all of his books and cutes them out into the shapes as desired. Letting the children make their own decisions will give them more confidence in making their own choices.
