Harold and the Purple Crayon By: Crockett Johnson
Why Read This Book? If you had one crayon, what would you do with it and what would you draw. Well, Harold has no problem taking any kind of adventure with his purple crayon. Where exactly does this purple crayon take him? This is a story that helps to show that imagination can literally take you anywhere, where will you let it take you?
|
Think and Ink, Pair and Share Think of what you would have done with the purple crayon that Harold had in the story. Build onto the story of your own. Think of all the things you would have drawn and allowed yourself to do. Once you have done this, pick your favorite color crayon and draw your favorite part of your own journey. Now, you can share with a classmate and tell your story.
Materials Needed are a crayon, a piece of paper and a buddy. |
Assessment
The best part of this activity is that students get to show what things they would have drawn and explain why. This will let the other students know more about their classmates and be able to relate to them in ways they did not know were possible.
